In my boredum of being at home, I decided to browse VideoGamePriceGuides.Com to see what kind of random games I could put offers out on. Ridiculous offers, mind you. So here's what I did:
- $1.00 offer on Adventure Island w/$2.99 shipping (OFFER DECLINED)
- $1.00 offer on Addams Family w/$2.88 shipping (OFFER EXPIRED)
- $2.00 offer on 3-D World Runner w/free shipping (COUNTER OFFER OF $3.50 RECEIVED)
- $3.05 offer on Chubby Cherub w/$3.95 shipping (OFFER DECLINED)
- $1.00 offer on 720 w/$2.50 shipping (COUNTER OFFER OF $1.99 RECEIVED)
I just wanted to see what kind of reactions I would get with those terrible offers. I mean, Chubby Cerub is worth $16 and I offered $1! I was declined pretty quickly for it too. Oh well.
In awesome news, I'm finally able to receive text messages from my Google Calendar! Apparently, when using your cell number as an activation code to create other Gmail accounts, it messes with the ability to receive those texts from your actual account. So, after tricking Google a little, it now works. Now I can snipe those good deals again. Yay!

Pinball

This game was dusty when I received it. I cleaned it with a cotton swab and some window cleaner, stuck it in my Yobo, and... nothing. So I opened it up and cleaned it with an eraser (even though the contacts looked fine), put it back in the Yobo, and... still nothing. Frustrated, I stuck in my NES out in my living room and VOILA! It works just fine.
NOTE TO SELF: Pinball does not work in a Yobo..

My Top 6 Favorite NES Games
This is a topic that I have been told in the past that I should discuss. Here's my list (in no paticular order):

1.)Dr. Mario
I'm a huge fan of puzzle games, and this one is definitely my favorite. I have loved this game since I was young. I consider myself pretty good at this game. The furthest I've gotten in this game is level 20. Now if you consider your expertise based on your online play on Dr. Mario RX for the Wii.. that's a different story. I'm not too terrible, but I certainly don't consider myself "good". It's fun, nonetheless.
2.) Burgertime:
This is one of the first games I got for the NES. I might have played it in the arcade or on the Intellivsion (with the breadstick), but I don't recall. It's a simple, addicting, and frustrating game. You can guide the food where you want it to go, but they get smarter as you go and guiding them still can lead them to the chef. If you want to know more about this game, you should check out the posts here. Also learn about a movie that is supposed to be in the making.. *nudge nudge*
3.) Super Mario Bros. 2
Of course at least one of the Mario Bros. games has to be on everybody's top list. This one happens to be my favorite one. I think I might have even beaten this game once before, but I know have at least gotten pretty far in this game. It's fun and not too hard or complicated. It's fun to play as Princess and fly around or play as Luigi and watch his feet go all over the place when he jumps. The graphics are awesome, too. I will beat this game soon.
4.) Tiny Toon Adventures
I actually recall playing this game when I was younger. I also used to watch my brother play this game a lot too. It's great, but it's one that I have never beaten before. I always end up dying near the same spot. You can watch one of my playthrus on one of my earlier posts here. It's worth about $6 on eBay, and normally you wont find it for much cheaper. I, luckily, won it for $4.98. I plan on spending some time on this game in the near future to actually beat this game.
5.) City Connection
I had never played or heard about this game until it was pointed out to me. I first played it on my DS with my Game and Music Card that has all NES games. This game is very addicting. Its pretty simple, driving around a car painting road while avoiding other cars, a cat, and a spike. I wanted to beat the world record someday, which is at 1,175,800. But I have a hard time sitting down playing a game for that long so I don't think that will happen. You never know! I can only get to about 500,000.
6.) Bart Vs. The Space Mutants
This game makes me very angry when I play it. Mostly because I can't get past the second level. I can BREEZE through the first one, but once I get to the second one... that's where the frustration starts. But I still play it. I still like it. I just can't play it for long before I want to take the game out and throw it. I used to watch my brother and father play this game and beat it, but I don't see myself getting to this point. I will keep trying to, but it's not an ambition of mine.
And for some honorable mentions:
- Dig Dug II
- Mega Man 2
- Spelunker
- Elevator Action

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
(The image is from Doom 3, an arcade game in the game called Super Turkey Puncher)
This year I actually plan to cook a meal for myself, maybe set the table, and have leftovers for a very long time. First though, I'm off to work for a few hours. Earning 1.5X my normal pay is too tempting to pass up, plus I actually have a lot to catch up on from this week.
Hope you all get to stay home, stay warm, and enjoy your day with family and/or friends.

Excitebike World Rally!
I purchased this today hoping that eventually I will get a chance to play multiplayer online sometime with some chums. But after trying this game out today.. I need serious practice!
I haven't really played the original Excitebike for NES, so it was certainly a new game for me. Getting used to jumping right and not crashing into stuff is a challenge. I haven't even gotten an S rating on the first track! At least I've gotten an A, only 0.56 seconds over the S rating, but still. I'm not going to embarass myself by playing online with people who will for sure kick my butt!
And I'm supposed to be practicing Side Pocket.. oh well.

The Nintendo I thought was broken...
One morning I decided to play my newly fixed Nintendo before going to work. I was enjoying a game of Side Pocket when my cat, Porkchop, decided to jump in the cabinet where my game systems are stored. I scolded the cat, insisting that he get out. It took awhile, but he finally listened. So while he jumped out...
*CRASH!!!*
He ended up getting caught in the Nintendo controllers, taking the Nintendo with him out of the cabinet and to the floor! I looked in horror as the picture on the screen was messed up as the Nintendo laid face first on the floor.
I proceeded to yell at the cat as I babied the Nintendo and carefully placed it back in its spot in the cabinet. I reset the system and... the image was still broken. I panicked, reaching for another game that I knew had worked previously without issues. Same thing. Sound was fine, but the picture had these weird lines in it that I had never seen before (even when the game doesn't work right other times).
I had adjusted the game like most Nintendo players have tried in their time, not pushing the game as hard as I can, doing the opposite, only pushing the game down halfway, nothing. Finally, I gave up, letting go of the game so it wasn't pushed down and SURPRISE! It worked just fine!
Why, do you ask, would this happen? Apparently Nintendo had been sued previously for the Nintendo getting the blinking red light or the edge connectors or whatever they got sued for (feel free to tell me the exact reason, link to it if possible). So Nintendo was replacing the connectors to fix this problem and have them work how I discovered it now worked. And if you have kept up with my blog, you know that I replaced my edge connector with a new one recently. So there you go.
Just thought I would share this interesting story with you.

My 7 games
So here's the games. Days of Thunder and Wizards and Warriors 2 came with manuals. They all work great and have very little scuff marks on them. Totally worth it.
Days of Thunder also came with these weird advertisements that I thought I would share.
This "Power Full!" poster is advertising for a free Days of Thunder poster. It's got photos of other games like Paperboy, 720, Roadblasters, ect. What's funny is the coupon you mail in tells you to either include $1 for shipping or 4 stamps. Don't see that anymore.
10 Way to Stay Zap Happy, advertisement for different Ultra games. I thought it was going to be games for the Zapper, but it has Q*Bert and Skate or Die. Pretty sure those games don't use the Zapper. But cool to look at nonetheless. It gives a blurb about the game and when it's supposed to be released. Fun stuff.

Lode Runner
I happened to get this game today. It was a bit on the dirty side, but it cleaned up pretty well. This game looks fun, but I'm not so good at it. I swear I have played it before and didn't have problems with it, but when I played it today, I couldn't get past the first level! I would try to make the ground disappear to drop the bad dudes, and die each time. I don't know what the deal is, but I got disinterested in it after two game overs. Maybe another day I will try again.
On a non-gaming note, I have had a computer sitting in my room for awhile that I had no idea if it worked or not. I just tried hooking it up, but there was no picture. I don't know if it's missing something like a graphics card, but oh well. I gave my computer a good dusting before plugging it back in, so lets help it will help a bit with the overheating.

Ebay Test - Update!
So the first half of the auctions have ended. So far I have won (for $0.99):
1. IronSword: Wizards and Warriors II
2. Tecmo Bowl
3. Days Of Thunder
*** Updated ***
4. Side Pocket
5. Q*Bert
I have lost:
1. Battle of Olympus
2. Ren & Stimpy: Veediots (SNES)
The rest of the auctions end later on tonight (I think around 11pm). I doubt I will be up that late, so expect an update in the morning. Wish me luck, 7 more auctions to go, still at the same $0.99 they have been at.

Ebay Test
So I've decided to mess around with Ebay this morning and bid on a bunch of stuff from the same seller that is willing to combine shipping. I did a max bid of $2.00 on each of the following games:
1. Legacy of the Wizard
2. Ironsword: Wizard and Warriors II
3. Arch Rivals
4. Snake's Revenge
5. Battle of Olympus
6. Ren & Stimpy Veediots (SNES)
7. Tecmo Bowl
8. Days of Thunder
9. Q*Bert
10. Side Pocket
11. Cobra Triangle
12. Super Spike VBall / Nintendo World Cup
They all started at $0.99 (and are currently still at that) and end either Saturday or Sunday. Most of these games are worth around $4.00, but there are a few that are worth a bit more, so it could end up being a good deal if I win them. I have no idea what the outcome of this will be, and will be surprised at whatever the result may be. Maybe I could convince the seller to reduce shipping even more if I will all of those. Heh.
I actually wanted to get a Wii game this weekend, but after pulling this stunt soon after I woke up.. that will have to wait until next payday. :(

My NES is finally fixed!
That's right. My original NES is fixed. Replacing the edge connector has made it work wonderfully. The only downfall is that games that work fine in my Yobo are not working right away in the NES. Unfortunately I will probably have to open up most of my games and clean up corrosion. I will probably do that this weekend because I don't want to break it again right after I got it fixed (sorta like I did the last time I got it fixed). The Yobo isn't as sensitive as the NES when it comes to dust and corrosion. And having to open over 110 games and using the nice pink eraser to clean my games... that doesn't sound like fun at all. But got to do what I got to do.
Hooking up stuff in my living room is becoming much of a chore. I have a VCR, DVD player, PS2, SNES, and NES all hooking up to my TV that only has two AV ports. The AV port in the front works very poorly (TV or sound will go out randomly, which is pretty sucky when you're in the middle of game play) and the picture on my TV is looking funky. I need to upgrade my TV, but I hear that playing old games on a new TV doesn't look very good. I also need to consider getting one of those things that you can plug in multiple AV cords into and switch the channel from that. I have no idea what it's called... ha ha ha. But as my Mom says, I'm a "cheapskate" and who knows when I will actually purchase new items unless mine actually break. :P
