"Dear (eBay user ID),
I'm pretty sure it was mailed out Tuesday, but I can issue a partial refund on shipping because of the longer than usual wait if you'd like. I don't want any bad business, so just let me know what you'd like to do. If you don't have it by this Friday or Saturday, then it must have been lost, and I will refund your payment even if you still get it. So sorry again.
-Poll946"
That was the response I got to the note I wrote yesterday. I don't think there should be a "pretty sure" in that first sentence. Either it was or it wasn't, jerkface! And look how quick he was to throw in "it must have been lost" business! *sigh*. I guess I will just wait that stupid time frame he gave and go from there. Who knows, maybe it will show up tomorrow and I can just forget the whole thing!
ANYWAY, today I played Mario Bros. for the first time in the arcade. Man is it different than the one I play on the NES! The fighterflies seem a lot harder to hit, the side steppers move faster, it's harder to stop running, and stuff is flying at you from all directions! I mean, the fireballs waste no time in coming out of every corner it seems. I do like it, but it's definitely more of a challenge. Oh, and the machine I played on has part of the screen not working properly, so you can't tell if there is a fireball or not at the top of the screen until it's right on your butt! If you haven't played it in the arcade, I do think you're missing out.
I also forgot to mention previously that I won The Mutant Virus as a best offer of $4.99 + free shipping. I received a tracking number for it the day before yesterday so I shouldn't encounter any problems. The seller was very nice and got everything taken care of quickly. Yesterday I received Pro Wresting which arrived here in two days. I was somewhat disappointed in the quality of the game, but oh well. It's not in too bad of shape. I hope that after I get paid this week I can shop a bit more. Not having much extra money makes spending it very difficult.. booo.

Galaga nonsense
"Dear poll946
The last message that you sent to me you said you were going to mail Galaga out on Saturday, May 24th. I understand that it was a holiday weekend, so even if the item had been dropped in the mail late Saturday and not left the post office until Tuesday, its fair to say that the game more than likely would not take more than 5 days to arrive. I won this title 20 days ago and am very disappointed. If there were any issues in sending out this game later than anticipated, some sort of communication would have been expected. My frustration is not over the game so much, but the principle of this whole ordeal. Please let me know what the next step is in this transaction, whether the item was just shipped later than expected (or not at all) or if it would be more appropriate to request a refund.
-(My eBay ID)"
So as you read, I gave until today for the stupid game to arrive. This ordeal has gone on long enough and I hope the guy just refunds my money at this point. Here's the time line of this game:
- May 10th: Won game, made paypal payment immediately after auction ended.
- May 12th: Seller accepted paypal payment.
- May 17th: Asked seller where game was, got reply that game had not been shipped due to unusual rainfall in their area. I asked when game would be shipped and he informed me the game would be shipped that Saturday.
- Now: Still no game, no word on it.
I have not had any trouble with eBay until now. Rawr.

Boo on certain eBay sellers
Well, no luck on getting my Galaga game yet. I swear, if that game is not in my mailbox by Saturday...
On a quick note, I won Kirby's Adventure and Metroid w/the gray label yesterday. They're from the same seller so I was trying to get reduced shipping, but I haven't gotten a response yet. If I don't hear anything by tomorrow I'll just pay for the auctions and be done with it. OH well. I was attempting to win Mega Man 2 and 4 (although 4 was missing half of it's label) together, but some jerk-face outbid me 15 seconds before the auction was over! Grr! I was on the mobile ebay site and it's really slow, so I would have never been able to get back in there and win it. :(
Other than that, not much gaming news on my end. Might play some Guitar Hero Aerosmith to get some more world records, but we'll see how the weekend goes. Gotta practice some Mario Bros. too.

Patience almost pays off
So I finally got most of the games I had been waiting for in the mail today! Only game outstanding now is Galaga. And yes, I won two copies of Duck Hunt. You know what this means? I can bid on more games! I already have a bid out on Kirby's Adventure, Metroid (the gray label), and Super C. The first two games end in about 21 hours, and Super C ends in 1 day and 20 hours. Hopefully I'll win them!

Something that I found out today that I thought was neat: The Adventures of Bayou Billy has a "Sound Mode", where you can listen to all the sounds and BG music of the game. I thought that was pretty nifty! Too bad more games (that I know of) don't implement this feature because it really is pretty cool.
I'm trying to decide what type of NES craft I want to crochet next, but I can't pick something. I wanted to try and make a controller, but I was told that it would be pretty useless (I don't know if the hot dog was useful, but hey). I thought about making the rest of the BurgerTime characters, but I dunno.. I'll let you all know if I make up my mind.

The coolest crafting ever!
Here is my awesomeness to start off with:

Yeah, isn't that cool?! I crocheted that all by myself, made my own pattern and everything! And if you don't know what that is (and I will be surprised if someone doesn't), it's the hot dog from BurgerTime! I was so excited when I finished this, but I didn't want to share it until I gave it to the person I made it for.
No real news in collecting this weekend. I didn't get any games, even though I was told I should have gotten Toki yesterday. Tracking number has not changed at all. Galaga was supposed to be dropped in the mail yesterday, so we'll see about that.
I did get to watch my Brother play Mega Man 3 for me. Man, he's incredible! I mean, he goes through all the levels like it's a walk in the park! He knows where everything is, where to shoot at each moment, and can beat the bosses with barely getting hit! I would have watched him complete the game, but my cat ran across and kind of knocked the Nintendo over. He says that's what he gets for scaring him all day long, ha ha ha. I also got to watch him play Abadox, but he didn't do very well on it surprisingly. I played a bit of Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout, got irritated with level 2-4, so I gave up. That game is too damn long anyhow.
That's all from me. Wish me luck that I'll get my games on Tuesday.

Some game play..
I was bored today.. no work, no money to spend on games, and too lazy to go anywhere. So here's some Tiny Toon Adventure game play cause I can. I'm not too awesome at this game yet, but I'll get there. This video is in two parts, so make sure to watch the second half (of me dying a lot.. ha ha ha).
P.S. Windows Movie Maker has to make things so difficult when you want to save it in the correct format.. rawr.

Playing the waiting game

So I finally sent a message to the seller of Galaga that I won over 10 days ago asking when I should expect the game, or when they were planning on mailing it. They replied saying "I am sending it off Saturday. Thanks for your patience throughout these couple weeks." I'm not being patient at all! Bad weather is one thing, but this is turning out to be just laziness or lack of urgency! Unless the weatherchannel.com lies to me, they've had good weather in their area for awhile now. AND it says that there's supposed to be rain tomorrow.. Just my luck, they'll say they can't mail it still. Either way, this seller (poll946) is going to get a neutral rating only because they at least warned me about the shipping being delayed.
And as for the seller I won Toki from, they sent me this lovely message after I asked about expected shipping time: "This email ended up in our junk folder along with some others. I'm sorry, I just dropped it off at the USPS. You should have it Sat. Keep me posted, please." (This message was attached to my paypal receipt that they recieved on 5/13/09!) Seriously, in your junk mail folder?! How the hell do you not check that regularly if you sell stuff on ebay? And how do you just forget that you had an auction end on a certain day and you expect payment?! And this, this was a mess because I put in two best offers until I got a counter offer (that I complained about in a previous post)! I got a tracking number for this item, and as of this morning it still says "Electronic Shipping Info Received". This item is only coming from a state away, so I don't know what the heck is going on. This seller (completenintendogames) is also going to get a neutral rating. I should have been cautious because I had gone through this sellers ratings and saw that other ebay-ers had complained about not even receiving items! Maybe those emails went into the junk mail folders as well..
As for other items on the waiting list, they should be in the mail today and hopefully it will be here sometime early next week. At least these items I won the day before yesterday. I probably wont be doing any other ebay-ing for a bit cause I have other money endeavors that are a bit more pressing. Who knows, I may find a deal that I just can't pass up! I'm still looking to get the Mega Man games, but finding a good deal is kind of hard. I could find a low auction, but it usually ends up jumping up way quick and then I give up. Who knows what luck ebay will bring me...

Mega Man 3, baby!
Man, this game brings back so many memories! I got it in the mail today, game is in PERFECT condition! I did play a bit of Snake Man's stage, but I'm not too great at any Mega Man game, so I ended it there. But yeah, intro music is awesome, boss select music is awesome, Mega Man is just awesome! And sorry about all the lines, this was recorded with my digital camera, so it's not the greatest recording ever... too lazy to set up my webcam. (EDIT: I finally recorded with my webcam, should look much better than before)
Don't have much to say today other than Toki and Galaga is still MIA, won a bunch of games off of eBay so no bidding for me until I get them, and I have to make a mean phone call to a business that owes me money! I'm definitely going to invest in more Mega Man games as soon as I get the other games still pending. Until then, I'll be hiding in the shadows of eBay..

Hooray for Kiwi Kraze!

In a bout of luck, I happened to find a copy of Kiwi Kraze from the Nintendo Price Guide for $6.99 or Best Offer. So, less than one minute before the sale was up (what do you call it when its a buy it now option? Not an auction..), I submitted a best offer of $5.00. Needless to say, I got freakin' lucky and the seller accepted it! I didn't know what was going to happen cause it was right before the sale was over, but I prevailed! So now I don't have to borrow a copy anymore cause mine should be in my mailbox sometime next week probably!
Funny thing about that intro screen, why the heck does Tiki (the name of the bird) have horns? And those bears, what do they mean? I found out by messing with the controller that the bears mean 1 or 2 players, but the horns still don't make sense. And you should play this game and watch Tiki almost drown. Its wings start flapping all crazy like and I just think it's totally hilarious! I now have the sound of Tiki dying as the sound when people sign in/out of my messenger.
Speaking of games in the mailbox, I have no idea where my Toki game is. I sent a message to the seller of the game asking if it had been shipped, but no response yet. I mean, I won this game 5/13 in the evening, so it's been about a week. It's coming from AZ, which is not really that far away. It shouldn't take this long! Rawr! On another note, this seller does have some negative feedback for not sending items.. Let's hope I'm not one of those unlucky buyers!
I kind of went a bit crazy on eBay and bid on a bunch of stuff, but I've been losing the auctions left and right. Probably for the best. Mega Man 3 left TN this morning, so that should be arriving shortly. And Galaga... still no word on that game since the last message of being too much "rain" to send the package. According to Weatherchannel.com the weather in zip code 75491 is freakin' clear skies! And tomorrow is supposed to be sunny! That seller.. I'll give him one more day to send me a message. Then I'm going to have a cow and message him. Gotta be careful though, don't want to be too much of a jerk and never get my item.
Anyway, I'm off to play some games.

Debating between systems..
Before I get to the topic at hand, let me share my eBay stuff for today! First off, I got Crystalis in the mail today. Plays great, label has a bit of wear at the top. Nothing too bad, but not perfect. I won Mega Man 3 for $6.75 (including shipping), and the person I won it from put it in the mail right after I won it, or so they say. So I should see that soon! Hopefully Toki will show up tomorrow, and Galaga.. who knows when I'll see that. I also won another game that I will share when I get it. I'm currently the highest bidder for Kid Icarus for $4.04 including shipping and a lot of Mega Man 3 & 4 for $10.59 including shipping. I'm waiting for a response on the condition of a Kiwi Kraze and will give a best offer for it. It's going for $6.99 or best offer with $3.75 shipping. I hope it's in good condition cause I WANT IT almost as bad as I wanted Tiny Toon Adventures (and that's A LOT).

Now to the system issue.. My sister had informed me that she wanted a Nintendo and some games since I've been telling her about my collecting. As you can see to the right, I own a Yobo system, which is a top loader third party system (and yes, those are original NES controllers. I got rid of the ones that came with the Yobo cause they were garbage). But I also have an original Nintendo system. Her birthday is coming up and I'm debating on what to get her. I have no idea if she has a preference and if I ask her it would kind of give it away. But I dont' know what to do! Do I get her an original NES system from wherever and send it to her? Or do I try to find her a Yobo like I have since I never have ANY issues with it? Or do I send her my Yobo and try my luck with this fancy thing: http://www.playmessiah.com/products/classics/generation-nex-videogame-console.htm? It's kind of expensive ($59.99 not including shipping), but it's fancy and I bet it would be just as great as my Yobo with the lack of issues. My Yobo has never given me flashing lights or anything of that nature, where as I had JUST cleaned the pin connector of my NES, got Popeye in the mail and stuck it in there without cleaning it and now ALL I GET is the flashing light. I'm planning on replacing the pin connector anyway on that thing, but still! I have to have an original system if I want to submit some world records on Twin Galaxies. I have to make a choice pretty soon here, so I'll just have to do my research (plus I'll have to invest in some games for her too).

Ghosts N Goblins and other eBay items
So I got Ghosts N Goblins in the mail yesterday. If you have not played this game, you have saved yourself some frustration! This game is ridiculously hard, especially since I'm not very good at shooting stuff, aiming, and avoiding getting hit by things. Now that I think about it, that rules out quite a bit of gaming for me. The opening stage sound is currently my IM sound, just for little bit of random info.
I also am waiting for a few other games: Toki and Crystalis, which should be coming in the mail hopefully any day now, and Galaga. The seller of Galaga has informed me that there is more-than-usual rainfall in his area and he would not be sending the game until the weather has let up. At first I thought this was fine and dandy because I didn't want to get a wet, damaged game in the mail. But then I started thinking... how often is their wet mail in my mailbox? Yeah, sometimes there is drops of rain on it, but when has it ever been SOAKED and so messed up I couldn't even read it?! Never. So I'm guessing that this person is slacking because I won it for less than $5.00 and he is in no rush to send it out. Rawr.
In my traveling this weekend I wasn't able to get to go shopping for NES games at familiar stores near my home town, but oh well. This was not a vacation anyway.
Currently I'm bidding on a Mega Man 2 NES game that I'm currently the high bidder for $2.25 + $3.63 shipping and a Mega Man 3 NES game for $2.75 + $3.99 shipping. I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I'm really anxious to add Mega Man to my collection. I've never been very good at them (because of reasons stated earlier), but they bring back such fond memories of watching my Brother play and kick butt at it. These games are worth a lot according to the Nintendo Price Guide , which I'm positive is pretty accurate, so I've got to take my time with these games and try to get myself an awesome deal!
Anyway, here's a review of Ghosts N Goblins by the Irate Gamer on youtube. It's true and his frustration is very well placed!

My Tiny Toon Adventures!
Oh my gosh! I FINALLY got it! My beloved Tiny Toon Adventures finally came in the mail! And this baby is in PERFECT CONDITION I love this game, and still pretty decent at it for not playing it in quite a while! Not only is it an awesome game to add to my Nintendo Collection, but it's so much fun and a game that I can actually play well! In my initial testing of the game, I got to the 4th stage without dying, then turned it off cause I had things to do. Soon I'll record some game play, but I've got a lot to do this evening.
I'm still waiting on 4 more games, 2 of which should be coming in the mail probably tomorrow (and I wont be in town, boo) and the other two will probably not arrive until next week since I just won them yesterday. Looks like I'm picking up the pace with the collecting by getting so many games these past two weeks. I might even pick up some more on my trip this weekend, but we'll see! (Don't forget that you can view my game list here.) :D

About a few things..
First off, I'm going to have a mini rant. Why the heck are you going to have a "Buy It Now or Best Offer" on eBay, but not allow your best offer to be worth anything?! I just accepted a counteroffer for Toki for NES for $5.50, but his buy it now price was $5.95! I had offered $4.00 and was declined. My friend offered $4.45 and was declined. I then offered $5.00 and got that counteroffer of $5.50 with a note attached saying "Lowest price -- sorry". What the hell, don't even have the best offer if that's how you're going to be! Sheesh! Ah well, the joys of NES collecting and trying to get the best deal yet (speaking of which, if you checked out http://www.videogamepriceguides.com/nintendo, you'd see that I got a pretty outstanding deal on this game because the average price on this game is $26.60 and I'm getting it for $8.50).
But in good eBay news, I got my Yoshi in the mail! I had never played this game before, but the game is actually pretty fun. If you have never played it before, make sure to check it out. I always enjoy puzzle games, so this definitely hits the spot. I'm not 100% sure why I was so adamant about winning this game, but oh well. Just trying to build up that collection!
I have a tracking number for Tiny Toon Adventures, but the status is only "Electronic Shipping Info Received", which means that it hasn't been shipped yet. No word on the other three games, but I'll give it some time before I start asking. Usually by the time I feel like it's time to ask, it shows up in the mail anyway.
Anyway, I borrowed Kiwi Kraze from a friend, and now I'm going to go attempt to be awesome at it! Another game you should definitely check out if you've never played it before. Should be fun!

Nintendo Price Guide! YaY!
FINALLY I get to share with you all this incredible new tool that I (and now all of you) can use to search for NES games on eBay. I present to you:
Nintendo Price Guide (http://www.videogamepriceguides.com/nintendo)!
This is the coolest thing ever!! It lets you search by each NES title and gives you very helpful information to get the best deal by showing the average price, the availability, which titles have games going below the asking price (by highlighting it in green) and how many games are below the average price! The list is very easy to navigate and makes catching a deal just that simple! All you have to do is click on the title you're interested in, and the next window will show you up to 50 listings of that title, starting with the lowest price first. Remember, everything highlighted in green is considered below the average price on eBay! See how easy it is to use!
I myself have used this list in the testing stages and I caught myself 4 deals this past weekend, including Ghosts n Goblins for $0.99 plus $2.50 shipping, Yoshi for $2.01 plus , Tiny Toon Adventures (FINALLY) for $0.99 plus , and Galaga for $1.83 plus . This tool is addicting to use and makes me want to spend ALL MY MONEY getting stuff. But alas, the money can only go so far before I run out... or starve.
This will definitely help me complete my collection. Right now I'm only at 52 titles out Remember, visit http://www.videogamepriceguides.com/nintendo and get cracking on your own NES collection (or find that title you've been looking for) and let this site do the searching for you! :)

Mario Bros. From eBay
Funny thing about this game is that I wasn't actually looking for it. I found it on accident, bid on it when it only had a few hours left, and actually won it! The seller only had less than 100 items sold with 100% positive feedback, so I went for it and I was glad. The only downfall was that a friend was watching the same item! Thank goodness I didn't bid over them or I would have felt bad.
I haven't had too much luck with eBay lately, mostly because I haven't been able to watch items closely and I've been bidding on some pretty popular games. I've lost a lot of auctions and have been getting irritated. But I'm sure my luck will turn around. Now is not the time to give up, I fear nothing!

Rubbing Alcohol = Fail
As you can see, it didn't work as well as I had intended (except for Double Dragon III). I was able to get the paper part of the stickers off, but the residue from the sticker just doesn't want to budge. Double Dragon III had rental store stickers on them, so the stickers were different and I was able to get the residue off after some long scrubbing.
So now I have a choice: Do I try something else, such as Goo Gone or something similar to it, or do I just buy new backs and change them? I was told I should do the latter of the two but I just feel bad for the games that I would put the bad backs on. Not only that, I'd rather spend money on games I'm going to keep and collect instead of mutilate! Goo Gone doesn't cost that much.... right?
In a quick note, while I was testing Double Dragon III, I saw this and wondered: Why does Billy stand like he has to pee?

A day of good and bad
So first we'll start with the bad news: I lost ALL the auctions on eBay that I was trying to win today. NO Journey to Silius, no Dig Dug II, and no Adventure Island (I wasn't really trying that hard for that game anyway). I was so disappointed to lose Journey to Silius, got outbid at the last second! Same with Dig Dug II, but I'm not too sad about that. I was only really bidding on the last two games cause they were cheap and from the same seller (combined shipping). But alas, I will have to try again.
Not so bad news: The person I won Mario Bros. from finally accepted his Paypal payment. That means it should be shipped (hopefully). I really should message the person, but I don't want to be a bother. Maybe tomorrow...
AND FOR THE FANTASTIC NEWS: My Guitar Hero II scores finally went up on www.twingalaxies.com! That's right, I have WORLD RECORDS! I completed all of Guitar Hero II on hard and have the top scores for the game now! Whoo hoo! If you'd like to check out the rest of my scores, just go here: My Records. Total WORLD RECORDS: 103. Working my way up to the Top 25 record holder list WITHOUT playing any MAME games! (And if you don't know what TwinGalaxies is, you should check out that site).
I have a long weekend ahead of me. Gotta practice for my future world records! Wish me luck!

My purchases from eBay
Today I'll share with you all what I have won on eBay so far, and what I am currently bidding on (no item numbers so you can't outbid me!).
Here's what I've won in order including item number, price + shipping, and estimated worth:
~ Popeye NES (330322411645): $4.00 + $3.00 shipping. Estimated worth: $3.35. (I will share a story about this game soon)
~ 10-Yard Fight NES (170320801841): $1.53 + $0.92 shipping. Estimated worth: $0.75.
~ 10-Yard Fight NES (370169821435): $1.00 + $2.00 shipping. Estimated worth: $0.75. (I won this by accident, because I forgot I put a best offer out on it.. used it as a trade)
~ Contra NES (220399989335): $10.99 + FREE shipping. Estimated worth: $17.98. (My friend found this when browsing eBay under my login. Instead of changing to their login, they bid for me. LUCKY!)
~ Barker Bill's Trick Shooting NES (310137317320): $2.99 + $3.00 shipping. Estimated worth: $1.98. (Played this game growing up. I remembered the game cartridge right on the spot, but didn't remember the gameplay at all. How weird).
~ Mario Bros NES (120411815080) $1.01 + $3.99 shipping. Estimated worth: $9.97. (I was so shocked when I won this at this price! Total luck! But I'm holding my breath.. I just won it Saturday and I haven't received a tracking number or any communication from the seller.)
Here are my current bids:
~ Journey to Silius NES: $1.75 + $2.00 shipping. Estimated worth: $2.98.
~ Dig Dug II NES: $0.99 + $2.00 shipping (from same seller). Estimated worth: $2.88.
I'm also on the hunt for a Tiny Toon Adventures NES game that is less than $8.00 including shipping. I'm sure I'll find one, just trying to be patient. So far I feel like my purchases on eBay have been reasonable. Excluding the shipping I've been staying pretty close to the estimated value. I'm happy, just trying to not go too crazy with eBay so I don't make myself broke!
And because you decided to come read my blog, here's a fun video for you to watch that I found on youtube. Enjoy.

Cleaning my NES games
Over to the right here you'll see a few games that have some MAJOR sticker mess on them. I inherited these games from my brother (thanks again!), so no complaining about having to get them cleaned up since I got them for free. But wow, look at those stickers!
I don't mind the work, but I don't know how I'm going to get those off without scraping away at them . I've been told that rubbing alcohol or acetone will get it off, but I'm a little nervous about putting those chemicals on the plastic. Usually all I have to do is wipe it down with some window cleaner on a paper towel and the job would be done, but not this time.
Now that I've started collecting games on my own, I've learned about taking care of my games and the system itself. I remember back in the day I'd watch my brother clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol. Little did I know that that's bad for it. I remember up until recently I used to blow in the cartridges or the system to try and make it work. I had no idea that that was bad for it as well! A unique trick I learned: to remove fairly recent permanent marker from the game, write over the marking with a dry erase marker, let sit for a few minutes, then wipe off. It works quite well actually. And for the first time in my life I saw the inside of a Nintendo console. I learned how to disassemble the system, clean the 72-pin connector, and put it back together. Now mind you, I didn't actually do it, but I got to see it done so I can take care of it in the future (which the future being now since I stuck a dirty game in the system and it stopped working again, d'oh!).
That's my post for now. If I get anymore crazy games that I have to clean, I'll make sure to show them off.

My First Entry: Learning About My Blog.
Hi!
Here's what I want to blog about:

That's right, NES games. I've decided (with a little encouragement from a friend) to collect ALL NES games. Should be a fun task considering there are over 600 titles to gather up! That picture above is what I have now, not counting the few doubles I have. Total individual games: 37. Not a whole lot now, but I'm getting there!
I originally started this project off with only 21-ish games (I can't remember the exact number). I've slowly worked up my collection with purchases from eBay, hunting down treasures from local game stores, trading, and freebies from others who just don't want them anymore. There isn't a whole lot of game stores around here that carry good NES games (or at a good price), so most games will probably come from eBay.
I don't really have a timeframe of when I want to have them all collected or a plan on how or what order I want to collect them in. At first I thought I'd go by the manufacturer of the game, then I thought I'd go by the year. Now I've decided I'm just going to start by collecting what I want and what I know so I at least have an idea of how much it is worth, either in my eyes or by the eyes of this website (NES Price List).
So far the adventure has been pretty fun. I love trying to win stuff on eBay at good prices, anticipating stuff coming in the mail for me to clean and test, or the random trips to game stores in hope of finding something I really want. I'm getting antsy cause I want to collect more and more, but money always has its limits!
Anyway, that's enough for now. I'll be posting my list up soon that will show what I have and update whenever I update it. Enjoy!
